How Desperate can Arroyo Get?

Reports have been circulating that six military men were seen around the vicinity of Bayan Muna (People First) Representative Satur Ocampo’s home. Though no arrest warrant is issued against Ka Satur, it is no longer new that instances of harassment coming from the government faces the legislator.

How desperate can this regime be?

Until now Arroyo failed in suppressing the voices of the marginalized sectors. In the 2007 elections, Bayan Muna and other progressive party-list groups gathered enough votes to represent their respective sectors in congress despite the many attempts of the government to sabotage the electoral process.

The tactics of the Arroyo administration is dwelling on terrorizing the people to cover the regime’s failure to address the basic needs of the Filipino people. While many Filipinos are bothered with the increases in basic commodities, and shortage in rice supply, Gloria resorts to merely palliatives to solve the problems.

While the crisis experienced by the Filipinos becomes worse everyday, it is only logical that numbers of disgruntled Filipinos over the current regime’s lack of sincerity in making solutions would continue to accumulate in number.

Arroyo is already making an example out of her critics and of course to those planning to stand against her. How clear could this premise get when we have members of progressive organizations critical of her government getting killed and disappearing without a trace since she came to power in 2001?

Such acts of desperation can only reach a certain extent. Either way, time will come for Arroyo fto face the music— The Music of the People.
